About Us

Musical Keys was founded in 1990 by the parents of young people with disabilities who realised that their young people responded to music irrespective of their level of disability.

Young people with a wide spectrum of special needs and disabilities are able to gain new skills and further their development through the use of music and movement in a stimulating, fun environment. Parents/carers attend with their young person and siblings to fully participate in the activities using a wide range of materials and instrumentation. Our main focus is on the young person and being able to provide the opportunity for family members to socialise and build support networks. Parents inevitably derive mutual support from the social interaction within our groups and we always include a period for refreshment breaks where parents can discuss their young persons progress with the staff.

Signalong is used during group activities as a learning aid for young people who find communication difficult.

We take great pride in the quality of our activities and have highly talented and well motivated staff. They are assisted by volunteers drawn from all areas of the community.
